JAPANESE LANDS IN SAN JOSE
A force was to occupy the San Remigio copper mine in the province of Antique following a strong recommendation from the Japanese Military Administration (JMA) or Gunsei Kambu in Manila.

Hence, a portion of the 33rd Independent Infantry Battalion was then ordered to land at San Jose, Antique the following day, April 17, 1942. (Under General Kawamura’s command, the 33rd Independent Infantry Battalion headed by Lieutenant Colonel Yasumi Senô was to serve as the Panay garrison.)
